Colorado football, in its second year under head coach Deion Sanders, is headed to a bowl game. The Buffaloes clinched their sixth win and bowl eligibility with a decisive 34-23 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday night. With this win, they not only secured their postseason berth but also positioned themselves as contenders in the Big 12 as the season heads into its final stretch.

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders played a pivotal role, completing his first 15 passes to set a new school record and finishing with 323 yards and three total touchdowns. This win ensures that Shedeur’s sophomore season at Colorado will culminate in the program’s first bowl appearance since 2020. Reflecting on the milestone, Deion Sanders expressed his gratitude but kept the team’s aspirations clear: “It’s a hurdle we’re excited about, but it’s just the beginning for us. There’s more we’re after,” he stated.

Despite battling the flu and limited practice time before the game, Shedeur completed 25 of 30 passes and connected frequently with two-way standout Travis Hunter, who tallied 153 yards and two touchdowns on nine receptions. Following the game, Deion Sanders questioned the absence of his son’s name in Heisman Trophy discussions, saying, “It’s just funny... Shedeur is focused on bigger things like his future in the NFL, but he deserves recognition.”

Colorado’s balanced offense in recent games has been crucial, with transfer running back Isaiah Augustave contributing 93 of the team’s 123 rushing yards. Their offensive efficiency helped them gain a strong 31-14 lead, which they held onto despite a late push from Cincinnati.

The Buffaloes' victory over Cincinnati marks their first six-win season since 2016. As they prepare for Big 12 opponents in the coming weeks, Deion Sanders has urged his team to focus on each game, one at a time, despite potential playoff implications. Looking ahead, they face Texas Tech, Utah, Kansas, and Oklahoma State—all teams that also faced defeats last Saturday.

Sanders dedicated the win to 99-year-old superfan Peggy Coppom, who was unable to attend due to COVID-19. He expressed plans to ensure she would travel comfortably to the bowl game they’ve long promised her.

In securing a bowl game this season, Coach Sanders and the Buffaloes have shown marked improvement and remain determined to continue building Colorado’s legacy on the national stage.
